Join Indian Air Force Recruitment
Air Force Offers various career opportunities in the ground, technical and flying department. The position or department you can choose depending on the educational qualifications you have.
There are various jobs or positions in every department. These are: –
- Ground Duty Department: – Ground department look after the human and material resources and manage funds. As a ground staff, you can work in Administration, Accounts, Education, Meteorology, and Logistics department.
- Technical Department: – Handling some of the most advanced and sophisticated equipment requires high technical skills. Mechanical and Electronics are the two branches of the technical department.
- Flying Department: – Under the flying department, you would be working as Fighter pilots, Transport Pilots, and Helicopter pilots During war and peace. Both men and women can apply and get a career in the Air Force after 10+2 and graduation both.
Join Indian Air Force after 10+2
After 10+2 there is a big opportunity for young boys to Join Indian Air Force. Choosing air force as a career after school is one of the best choices you can make. There are two entrance ways through which you can apply and Join Indian Air Force.
Join Indian Air Force- NDA Entry (National Defence Academy)
NDA is the joint services academy for Army, Navy, and air force located in Pune. One can join NDA by qualifying exams.

Qualification: – You should be appearing or had cleared 10+2 with physics, chemistry, and math.
Eligibility: – Eligibility for NDA is you should be unmarried and have Indian citizenship and age between 16.5 and 19 years.
How to apply:- You can apply for NDA By applying online on the UPSC website https://www.upsc.gov.in, the examination is conducted twice a year in June and December.
Procedure: – After applying and clearing the main examination, a 5 day SSB interview is conducted which tests your psychological and physical levels and a medical for all over clearance. Once you pass through the interview and medical, you get training in NDA.
Join Indian Air force – Airmen X and Y group
To Join Indian Airforce there are two groups in the air force for airmen and both groups have different criteria for eligibility and entrance.
Qualification: – For Group X airmen, technical trade requires 10+2 with PCM or diploma in engineering for any recognized university whereas, for education instructors in group X, one should have graduation completed with at least two years of teaching experience.
Group Y Candidates require 10+2 from any stream like science, arts, and commerce, etc. or equivalent.
Eligibility: – For group X and Y, the eligibility criteria you require are Indian or Nepalese nationality, you should be unmarried and age not more than 21 years.
How to apply: – Depending on the trade, the IAF has different online exams and you can apply for them online. The exam is conducted online and those who clear it go through and pass other tests which include a physical fitness test and a medical examination.
Procedure: – There are three phases which include an online examination in the first phase for selecting the eligible candidates and after you clear the online exam, you need to give a physical fitness test which tests your fitness limits and to know whether you have required fitness level or not. After the physical test, the main and last phase includes a medical examination which is conducted by professional medical representatives.

Join Indian Air Force after Graduation
After graduation, there are various ways through which you can Join Indian Airforce. There are three branches in which you can apply to depend on your graduation qualification. These are flying, technical, and ground branch.
Air Force Common aptitude test (AFCAT)
AFCAT is the biggest common aptitude test conducted in India for entrance in IAF. This test allows candidates to apply and enter all three branches.
Qualification:- For the flying branch, the candidate should have completed graduation and have physics and maths in 10+2 or have B.Tech/BE (four-year duration).
For the Technical branch, the candidate should have completed his/her graduation from a recognized university and have studied some subjects recommended by IAF for eligibility.
For the Ground Branch, the candidate should have graduation completed from any recognized university. It applies the same to both males and females.
Eligibility:- Eligibility criteria for these branches are somewhat the same but the age limits differ depending on the role you want to join in IAF.
The candidate should have Indian citizenship and have an unmarried marital status for both males and females. For age groups:
- Flying branch age limit is 19-23 years
- Technical branch age limit is 18-28 years
- Ground duty branch age limit is 20-23 years
Widows/widowers and divorced candidates are not eligible for the AFCAT exam who age less than 25 years.
Procedure:- The candidates go through three levels, in the first level the candidates have to clear AFCAT online examination which held twice a year. Non-technical candidates have AFCAT written examination whereas technical candidates have AFCAT+EKT examination in their first stage.
After clearing the examination, candidates have to face AFSB interviews and medical tests in the second and final stage of selection.
The notification for AFCAT examination releases every year in June and December and any candidate interested can apply online for the same.
CDSE (Combined Defence Services Examination)
This examination is conducted by UPSC twice a year and any candidate can apply for this examination as it is for all Indian navy, Indian air force, and Indian army entrance.

Qualification:- The candidates who want to take CDSE examination should be appearing in the last semester or have cleared their graduation and have a bachelor’s degree in any stream from a recognized university and have mathematics and physics in their 10+2 examination.
Eligibility:- The eligibility criteria for the Air Force through CDSE require an age limit of 19-23 years and only male candidates can apply for CDSE for Indian Air Force and in the Flying branch only.
Procedure:- Candidates have to clear the CDSE examination and after that, there is an SSB interview with a medical examination and clearing them both will provide you merit in the final result online.
How to apply:- The candidates can easily apply for CDSE by filling online application on https://www.upsc.nic.in for which the notification is released twice a year in June and December.
University Entry Scheme (UES)
UES is the best option for candidates who are studying in the second last and final year of engineering course. Male candidates can apply for the UES as it grants permanent commission in the technical branch.
Qualification:- All candidates applying for UES should have scored an aggregate of 60% or more in course completion and should be studying in their pre-final semester.
Eligibility:- Only male candidates can apply for UES and the age limit for that is 19-25 years and each candidate must be Indian citizens and unmarried. Divorced and widowers are not eligible for UES.
Procedure:- The procedure for UES is simple as interested candidates can apply for UES in their pre-final semester and then Shortlisting is done on an interview basis on the campus.
How to apply:- Any interested candidate can apply for UES by attending an interview that is conducted once a year and notification for the same will be provided by AFCAT in December every year.
NCC Special Entry
All NCC cadets are provided a special benefit in the form of a direct entry in the Indian Air Force, Indian Army, and Indian Navy. Men who join Indian Air Force through NCC will be provided an entry in permanent commission.
Qualification:- The candidate should have completed their graduation in any stream with physics and maths in 10+2 or B.Tech( four-year course) and must have an Air Wing Senior Division ‘C’ certificate.
Eligibility:- Only those candidates are eligible who age between 19-23 years and have an unmarried marital status and Indian citizenship.
Procedure:- This entry procedure is a direct entry scheme for NCC cadets in which there is no examination of any kind. After shortlisting, the candidates are interviewed and medical tests are conducted for final selection.
How to apply:- The candidate eligible for NCC special entry need to directly send their application and after that shortlisting is followed by SSB.
Meteorological Department Entry
The meteorological branch is the part of the ground duty branch having non-technical jobs for candidates. The candidates who have attained a post-graduation degree with some specific subjects can apply for this department.
The Meteorological department is only for postgraduate candidates. It is a form of direct entry scheme and both male and female candidates can apply for it. A Permanent commission is only for men whereas short service commission can be applied by both males and females.
Qualification:- The candidates who wish to apply in the Meteorological Department must have a post-graduation degree in any subject of science stream, Mathematics, Statistics, Geography, Computer Applications, etc. And must have earned at least 50% in aggregate. With post-graduation, the candidates who applied must have attained an aggregate of 55% in maths and physics in graduation in both subjects.
Eligibility:- The eligible age limit for candidates who can apply is between 22-28 years with an unmarried marital status and Indian citizenship
Procedure:- The candidates who applied successfully will be called for testing at one of the four AFSB. After the first stage screening and second stage testing, those candidates who pass both stages within 5 days of testing will be finalized and medical examination of these candidates will be conducted at AFCME Delhi or IAM Bengaluru as per recommendation.
How to apply:- Any candidate can apply to the Meteorological department online directly by registering for candidate selection on career airforce. Note to take a print out of form and receipt of a submission for future use. The application notification is issued online 3-5 weeks and generally occurs between January and February of every year.
FTS (Fast Track Selection) Entry
FTS or Fast Track Selection Is an entry scheme conducted by Indian Air Force for graduated candidates to select the eligible one according to the requirement for the respective branches. It occurs on the number of vacancies thus there is no fixed time of notification and duration of FTS entry.
FTS is conducted regularly for the Meteorological branch but for the Flying branch, there is no fixed schedule or release timing for notifications and vacancies. The FTS include both written tests and screening for more quality assured selection of candidates. Candidates can Join Indian Air force if they fulfill these conditions given below.
Important Information regarding FTS
Qualification:- The candidate should graduate in any stream from a recognized university and mist have attained 60% or more marks in the same with 10+2 passed with maths and physics subjects or should have completed BE/B.Tech degree course (Four-year duration) from a recognized university with min. 60% marks in aggregate.
Eligibility:- The eligibility criteria for candidates differ for the meteorological branch and flying branch. For the flying branch, the age limit is 18-25 years and for the meteorological department, the age limit is between 20-28 years for every candidate. All the candidates applying for FTS should be unmarried and have Indian citizenship. Any candidate who has attended the AFSB interview before is not eligible for FTS entry.
The Fast Track Selection has 4 stages through which the Indian Air Force selects the best eligible candidates. These stages include:-
- On the spot registration.
- Written Test.
- Allotment of AFSB center and interview date.
All those candidates who fail the written test will be sent back to the next trial for the coming year and other passing candidates will face stages 3 and 4. after stage 4 those candidates who pass the PPDT will be allotted interview/screening date, time, and center location.
How to apply:- The application for FTS is a walk-in-registration process during interview registration. You need to download the application form and fill all the necessary details and carry all the required documents with you during the registration at interview camps.
The documents required are:-
- Two recent passport-sized photographs.
- Two copies of IAF AFT forms filled by hand.
- Original certificates and mark-sheets for verification.
- Proper identification id for identity proof.
