HOW TO JOIN INDIAN ARMY?

There are two ways to Join Indian Army the intermediate class, both after completion of 12th high school.

1. JOIN INDIAN ARMY – NDA (National Defence Academy) Permanent Commission (PC) qualification 10+2

NDA just doesn’t give you a bachelor’s degree. It takes young boys fresh out of school and turns them into a gentleman and scholar warriors. It is the most meaningful undergraduate program in India. NDA MOTTO = SERVICE BEFORE SELF

The National Defence Academy (NDA) is situated in Khadakwasla close Pune, Maharashtra. It is the Joint Services foundation of the Indian Armed Forces, where cadets of the three forces, the Indian Army, the Indian Navy, and the Indian Air Force train, practice and study together before they go on to pre-commissioned training in their respective academies i.e. Army, Navy, Air Force.

NDA exam is conducted by UPSC twice a year. It is recruitment to all three defense forces i.e. Indian Army, Indian Airforce, Indian navy.

Educational qualification and eligibility criteria to Join Indian Army-

All candidates, from any stream (i.e. science, commerce, arts) who have passed 12th or appearing in 12th are eligible to give NDA written exam. But Mathematics and physics are compulsory subjects in class 11th and 12th if the candidate wishes to join the Indian air force and the Indian navy. Only Indian citizens are eligible for the NDA exam.

Age limit- 16.5 years to 19.5 years

NDA course is only for unmarried male candidates. Female candidates cannot apply for NDA course.

2nd way to Join Indian Army after 10+2 –

10+2 Technical entry scheme (TES) permanent commission for Men.

There are 90 vacancies twice a

All the selected candidates get
3-year training at National Defence Academy (NDA) with Bachelor of
sciences (B.sc) or Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree and one-year
pre-commission training at IMA.
Selected candidates get 5 years of
total training. 1 year at OTA Gaya
and 4 years of technical training
which includes 3 years
pre-commission and 1-year
post-commission training. After
successful completion candidates
are rewarded an Engineering
Degree.
During the period of training,
candidates get stipend or salary of Rs. 21,000 per month.
The candidate will be given a
stipend or salary of Rs. 21,000/-p.m. (Rs 15,600/- as pay in the pay band plus Grade Pay of Rs 5,400/- p.m.)
After successful completion of
military training in IMA and
various medical fitness test, as
gentlemen cadets, they are
granted Permanent Commission as Lieutenant.

2. JOIN INDIAN ARMY – COMBINED DEFENCE SERVICES (CDS) Graduation Qualification

The CDS exam is also conducted by UPSC twice in a year, June – July, and November- December. Through CDS students can join –

  • Indian Army
  • Airforce Academy
  • Naval Academy
  1. For Indian army –

 There are two Academies through which you can Join Indian army.

  • Indian Military Academy (IMA)
  • Officer Training Academy (OTA)

3. JOIN INDIAN ARMY- Technical Entry For Graduates and Post Graduates

Candidates having graduate and post-graduate degrees can directly Join Indian Army by applying for a Technical entry scheme. Three major technical entry schemes for graduates are –

  • Technical Graduate Course (TGC) Permanent Commission
  • University Entry Scheme (UES) – Permanent commission
  • Army Education Corps (AEC) – Permanent commission

4. JOIN INDIAN ARMY – NCC Special Entry Scheme

Indian Army has issued an NCC Special Entry Scheme for all the NCC candidates to Join Indian Army. Through this scheme, NCC candidates can directly Join Indian army. It also includes wards of Battle casualties of Army Personnel for grant of Short Service Commission (SSC) in the Indian Army.

NCC Special Entry scheme recruitment occurs twice a year.

VACANCY DETAILS-

Vacancies for NCC men and women (wards of Battle casualties of Army Personnel).

  • NCC MEN – total vacancies 50 (45 vacancies for general category and 05 vacancies for Wards of Battle casualties of army personnel).
  • NCC WOMEN– total vacancies 05 (04 for general category and 01 for wards of Battle casualties of Army Personnel).

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA –

AGE LIMIT – 19-25 years for both men and women NCC candidates (including wards of Battle Casualties of Army personnel).

EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS-

  1. (aa) NCC ‘C’ Certificate holders: Graduation Degree from any recognized University/college or equivalent with aggregate of minimum 50% of marks total in 3 years. Finale year appearing students can also apply provided they have secured an aggregate of minimum 50% marks in the first two/three years. Candidate must have a graduation degree at the time of joining training at OTA Chennai.
  1. (ab) Serving in NCC: candidate should have served for a minimum of two academic years in the senior wing of NCC.
  2. (ac) Grading: Candidate should have obtained ‘b’ grade in ‘C’ Certificate Exam of NCC
  3. For wards of Battle Casualties of Army personnel must have a graduation degree from any recognized university/college or equivalent with aggregate of minimum 50% of marks total in 3 years. Finale year appearing students can also apply provided they have secured an aggregate of minimum 50% marks in the first two/three years. (NCC ‘C’ CERTIFICATE NOT REQUIRED).

The selection of candidates to Join Indian Army will be done through SSB Interview and Medical Examination.

Fixed Stipend for Gentlemen or Lady Cadets during the entire duration of training in OTA i.e. 56,100/-p.m.

5. JOIN INDIAN ARMY – Judge Advocate General (JAG) Entry In Indian Army

The Judge Advocate General (JAG) post in India is held by Major general who is the judicial chief of the Army. There is a separate branch of JAG in the Indian army that contains legally qualified Army Officer. The work of JAG Officer in the Indian army is to provide legal help to the military in all aspects, basically advising the officer of courts-martial on military law. Both Men and Women can Join Indian Army with this scheme.

VACANCY DETAILS-

  • JOB LOCATION – all India
  • Total no. of vacancies: 08
  • For men: 05 posts
  • For women: 03 posts

ELIGIBILITY CRITERION-

  • AGE LIMIT- 21 to 27 years
  • Must be Indian
  • EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS-
  • Candidate must have 55% aggregate Marks in LLB Degree from a college/university recognized by Bar Council of India (their year professional course after graduation or 5-years course after 10+2).
  • Candidate should be eligible for registration with Bar Council of India.

Candidate Selection to Join Indian Army will be done on the basis of SSB interview. Candidates who qualify the Service Selection Board (SSB) interview and declared fit by the Medical Board, will be placed in the order of merit. The final selection will be made in the order of merit considering the no. of vacancies at that time.

6. ENTRIES ONLY FOR SERVING INDIAN ARMY SOLDIERS:

  • Army Cadet College (ACC) Entry
  • Permanent commission special List PC(SL)
  • Special Commissioned Officers (SCO)

ARMY CADET COLLEGE (ACC) ENTRY IN INDIAN ARMY –

Army Cadet College wing train regular soldiers form Indian army, Indian navy and Indian air force for commission as Officers in the Indian Army. The ACC gives soldiers to the Indian Military Academy (IMA) Dehradun. The nature of training and preparation is almost the same in both NDA and ACC, both run a 3-year degree course in science and humanities.

ACC is now rebranded as the Siachen Battalion at IMA.

The admission to ACC is based on the written exam and subsequent selection via the Service Selection Board (SSB). Training occurs at ACC Wing at IMA, Dehradun.

Vacancy Details – 75 vacancies (twice a year)

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA-

  1. AGE LIMIT- 20 to 27 years
  2. Marital Status – Unmarried or Married
  3. Date of SSB – September to November for January course and March to May for July Course
  4. Educational Qualifications – class 12th pattern or equivalent, should have qualified ACC written exam
  5. Duration of Course – Total four years (Three years in ACC wing and one year at IMA)

Join Indian Army PERMANENT COMMISSION SPECIAL LIST PC(SL)

Under PC(SL) entry JCOs/ NCOs/ ORs up to 42 years of age and having minimum 10 years of service, with Senior School Certificate Passed (10+2 pattern) are eligible to apply for PC(SL) entry. After screening by Service selection Board (SSB) and clearing Medical exam by Medical Board they are granted PC(SL) on successful completion of 4-weeks orientation program training at IMA.

Training takes place at AEC Centre & College, Pachmahri and IMA Dehradun

Vacancy details – 100 (once in a year)

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA-

  1. AGE LIMIT – max. age is 42 years, 45 years for Engineers and 45 years for IOB minimum service of 10 years
  2. Marital status – unmarried/ married JCOs/ married NCOs excluding sepoys
  3. Date of SSB– September, and October for July course
  4. Educational Qualifications – Matric and above from any recognized school
  5. Training duration – candidates have to train eight weeks at AEC Centre and college, Pachmarhi and four weeks at IMA

Join Indian ArmySPECIAL COMMISSIONED OFFICERS (SCO) SCHEME

Special Commissioned Officers (SCO) entry for JCOs/ NCOs/ ORs having age between 28-35 years, with senior school certificate pass (10+2 pattern) qualification are eligible for Permanent Commission. Screening is done by Service Selection Board (SSB) followed by the Medical Exam by Medical Board. Selected candidates have to undergo pre-commissioned training of one year at OTA Gaya. The rules for promotion for these Officers are same as for regular Officers. These officers are selected as sub-unit commander/ quartermaster and on various Regimental Employment appointments up to the rank of Major. Retirement is at the age of 57 years after serving for period of 20-25 years in the Army.

Vacancy details – 100 (twice a year)

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA –  

AGE LIMIT – 30 to 35 years and minimum service of 5 years can apply.

Marital status – Married/ Unmarried

Educational Qualification – 12th class passed of equivalent

Notification – twice a year January and July

Training period – Eight weeks communication skill training at ACC Centre and college, Pachmarhi followed by one year at OTA.

Join Indian ArmyTERRITORIAL ARMY (TA)

The Indian Territorial Army (TA) is the second line of defence after the Indian Army. ‘terriers’ is the nickname of the Territorial Army. TA invites employed young men for an opportunity to wear the uniform and serve the nation. It is not a profession or a source of employment. Volunteers in TA usually serve in uniform for a few days every year, so that they are available national defence in times of dire need or national emergencies. You can serve the nation in two capacities – as a civilian or as a soldier.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA –

NATIONALITY: only Indian citizens can apply (both male and females)

AGE LIMIT:  18 to 42 years

Educational Qualifications: Graduate from any recognized university

NOTE: serving a member of the Regular Army/ Airforce/ Navy/ Police/ GREF/ Para Military etc. forces are not eligible.

Training period:

  • Basic training for one month in the first year of commission.
  • Two months of training camp every year including the first year.
  • 3 months Post Commissioning training in the first two years at IMA, Dehradun.

Candidates having correctly filled the application forms will be called for screening (written exam followed by an interview, only if the written exam is cleared) by Preliminary Interview Board (PIB) of respective TA Army Headquarters.

Successful candidates will further undergo a Service Selection Board (SSB) interview and medical examination for final selection.
