JOIN INDIAN NAVY – Who watches over the deep blue to ensure a peaceful sleep for 1.37 billion Indians? It’s the mighty manifestation of India’s maritime power – the Indian Navy. India has the 7th largest naval force in the world. The Indian Navy was originally established by the East India company in 1612.

So, before we talk about recruitment and Qualification Schemes. Let us explain a bit about the kind of officer posts and jobs that you might expect to be recruited into. Officers posts are categorized under-

JOIN INDIAN NAVY-

Executive – As an Executive Officer, you will be an important part of the system that manages the ship and also uses the ship as an instrument during the wartime. The Executive officers are trained in a specialization such as Navigation, Gunnery, Anti-submarine warfare, Communications, and Diving. With consistent performance and good grades, one could become a Commanding officer of an Aircraft carrier.

Engineering – Engineers are also officers who deal with technology-oriented tasks like properly working, maintaining, operating equipment’s on the ships, submarine and Naval aircraft.

· Education – education officers give support in education, training, and development of naval personnel. Education Officers give instructions and lectures in various Indian Naval Training Establishments like the prestigious Indian Naval Academy (INA) at Ezhimala. These Officers are also engaged in teaching science, technical and service subjects to naval cadets undergoing B.Tech training at INA

Medical and Electric Officers

· Medical – The Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) is one of the finest job options available to medical students/graduates in our country. As a medical officer in the Navy, you will have an opportunity to learn military medicine and look after the health of the men in uniform and their families in navy hospitals of both during peace and war.

Age limit- up to 24 years
Selection takes place through a written exam followed by an interview which is held all over India once a year.
3.Army Dental Corps (ADC)-
direct Permanent Commission
Age limit – 28 years for BDS and 30 years for MDS.
 
1.      For BDS, a candidate must
have minimum of 60% marks in
final year and MDS from any
recognized university.
2.     Must complete 1-year rotatory internship recognized by (DCI)
3.     Should have a Permanent Dental Registration Certificate.
  • Electrical – As an Electrical Officer in Navy, you will get an opportunity to operate, working functions and maintain the Marine Electrical equipment onboard ships/aircraft/ submarines. It is a highly responsible and complex field that deals with warfare and its aids.

Join Indian Navy as an Officer after 10+2

There are various ways to join the Indian Navy as an officer if you have just passed your 12th or appearing for it or if you hold a bachelor’s degree or appearing in the last semester of it.
If you have just passed your 12th grade or you’re appearing for it, you have two ways to join the Indian navy.

1. NDA (National Defence Academy)/ Naval Academy (NA) Permanent Commission (PC) qualification 10+2

NDA/NA is an armed forces academy situated in Khadakwasla, Pune. It has vacancies for all the three-armed forces i.e. Indian army, air force, and navy. For Navy-

Qualification: – Appearing or passed class 12th with PCM (physics, chemistry, math).

Eligibility: – Only male candidates of age 16.5 to 19 years can apply. All the candidates shall be unmarried and Indian citizens.

How to apply: – You can simply apply for NDA/NA by filling up the online application which is available on the official site of UPSC i.e. https://www.upsc.gov.in The notification for the same is up on the site twice a year. First in the month of June and then in December.

Procedure: – It’s a two-way process that has examination conducted by UPSC and if you clear the exam a five-day SSB interview with medical is conducted for the final merit.

2. Direct Entry Scheme: 10+2 (For B-Tech)

This is a technical entry scheme, in this Candidates are selected on the basis of 10+2 PCM marks and then undergo an SSB interview. After clearing the interview candidates are placed into a B.Tech Engineering course of four years at INS Shivaji/Cochin University of Science and Technology for Naval Architecture and serve as PC Engineering officers in the Indian Navy.

· Qualification: – Passed class 12th with a minimum of 70% in PCM (physics, chemistry, math) and 50% in English. The JEE (mains) rank has been made compulsory for this particular entry.

· Eligibility: – Only male candidates of age 16.5 to 19 years. All the candidates shall be unmarried and Indian citizens.

· How to apply: – NHQ prepares and releases the advertisement in Employment News/Important Newspapers for inviting applications 6-8 months prior to the commencement of the course. This application is released twice a year for the spring term and autumn term. You can simply send your applications as mentioned in the advertisement.

· Procedure: – This entry scheme has just a one-step process that is the Service Selection Board (SSB) interview with medical. For this candidate are selected on the bases of their cut off marks and their JEE (mains) score.

Join Indian Navy after Graduation

For the graduates with bachelor’s degree, if you are appearing in the last semester of your bachelor’s degree or if you have a bachelor’s degree, these are the possible ways to join Indian Navy as an officer-

3. Combined Defence Services Examination (CDSE)

This examination is conducted by UPSC as it goes by the name it is for all the three forces i.e. Indian Army, Indian Airforce, and Indian Navy.

· Qualification: – Appearing in the last semester or having a bachelor’s degree in any stream of subjects.

· Eligibility: – Male candidates of age group 19 to 25 are eligible. All the candidates should be unmarried and Indian citizens.

· How to apply:- You can simply apply by filling up the application for this on the official site of UPSC. The notification for this is up on the site twice a year, first in the month of June and second in the month of December.

· Procedure: – This is a two-way process, firstly a written examination is conducted by UPSC and if you clear it there is an SSB interview with medical by the Indian navy. After which the final merit is given by the UPSC website.

4. University entry scheme

· Qualification: – B.E./B.Tech candidates of the seventh semester, who have secured a minimum aggregate of 60% up to the fifth semester.

· Eligibility: – Male candidates of age group 19 to 25 are eligible. All the candidates should be unmarried and Indian citizens.

· How to apply: – You can simply apply by giving campus interviews.

· Procedure: – This Scheme is under the control of IHQ MoD (Navy)/ DMPR and is available for both Permanent Commission (PC) and Short Service Commission (SSC). This entry scheme is conducted once a year, for Autumn Term at Indian Naval Academy (INA). Various teams are deputed to different technical colleges all across the country for Campus Interview (CI). The merit is made as per your score till the 5th semester and the CI for SSB interviews with a medical test conducted by the Indian navy.

5. NCC entry scheme

This entry is for the naval wing NCC cadets. NCC ‘C’ certificate holders can also join for Short Service Commission (SSC).

· Qualification: – Naval Wing Senior Div NCC ‘C’ with ‘B’ grade certificate holders with B.E./B.Tech degree can apply.

For wards of casualties NCC ‘C’ certificate is not mandatory.

· Eligibility: – Male candidates of age group 19 to 25 are eligible. All the candidates should be unmarried and Indian citizens.

· How to apply: – Candidates are required to forward their application directly to IHQ MoD (N)/ DMPR through DGNCC. The notification of this entry comes along with the notification of CDSE.

· Procedure: – This is a direct entry scheme in which there is no examination. Direct SSB interviews are conducted of eligible candidates and a medical examination by the Indian navy.

6. Indian Navy Entrance Test (INET)

This entrance test is for officer’s entry under the control of IHQ MoD (Navy)/ DMPR which allows for both Permanent Commission (PC) and Short Service Commission (SSC).

 A total vacancy of 121 posts for Pilot/ Information Technology/ Naval Armament Inspectorate Cadre/ Observer/Air Traffic Controller/ Logistics/Education/ Technical (Engineering & Electrical).

· Qualification: – Candidates should have passed B.E./B.Tech in any discipline with minimum 60% marks from AICTE recognized university/institute.

· Eligibility: – Male and Female candidates of age group 19 to 25 are eligible. All the candidates should be unmarried and Indian citizens.

· How to apply: – Interested and eligible candidates can apply by filling up the online application on the official site of the Indian navy.

· Procedure: – This is a two-way process that has an online examination and the shortlisted candidates are called for Service Selection Board (SSB) interview. After the medical tests conducted by Indian Navy final merit list is made.

7. Special Naval Architects Entry Scheme (SNAES)

‘Special Naval Architects Entry Scheme’ (SNAES) is a special scheme which is recently approved by the Government with the vacancy of 45 Naval Architect officers into the Naval Architecture Cadre of the Engineering Branch, as Short Service Commission (SSC) Officers.
A Naval team visits IIT Kharagpur, Andhra University and Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), IIT Chennai, to select candidates through campus interviews. The selected candidates undergo a medical examination.

8. Women in the Indian Navy

Till 1992 women were only allowed to join Armed Forces Medical Service. From July 1992 Indian Navy has started inducting women as Short Service Commission (SSC) in some selected branches of Navy.
